Being hybrid donna, 2023/24

Mixed Media Installation

Sculpture made of canvas fabric, foam flakes, filling cotton, bed linens, PET hair, PVC film, various fabrics, spray paint, faux fur, leather, melted plastic, Shells, latex, acrylic paint, operating room lamp, printed banner made of recycled polyester fabric, Sound-Piece „Brüten&Mythen pt1“

“Being Hybrid Donna” continues the thematic and material-aesthetic exploration of “Being Hybrid Shelly”, but with a particular focus on the theme of reproduction. The installation questions the societal assumption that the female-read body, due to its gender, is inherently responsible for birth, motherhood, and caregiving. It addresses not only the physical ability to reproduce but also the potential risks of overtaxing this ability—both in cultural and ecological contexts. As an embodied reflection of natural reproductive processes and their ecological implications, “Being Hybrid Donna” calls for a critical examination of the balance between cultural, biological, and environmental concerns. It invites viewers to question the impacts of reproduction on the environment, while simultaneously seeking to free the female-coded body from these projections.
